getting started
How to Use
Singl shows you one task at a time — always the right one. Here is everything you need to get from a blank list to focused work.
Adding Tasks
Tap the + button (top right, red) to create a new task. Fill in:
Title — what the task is.
Notes — optional extra detail shown below the title on the card.
Priority — 1 is highest, 5 is lowest. Higher priority tasks appear more often (see Priority below).
Recurrence — how often the task comes back after you complete it.
Show After — hide this task until a specific date and time.
Tap Save and the task enters the pool immediately.
You can also attach a photo — tap the camera or photos button in the edit form. It appears as a full-screen viewer when you tap the card.
Completing a Task
Double-tap the task card to mark it complete — you will feel a haptic and see a checkmark animation. You can also tap the circle button below the card.
If you have cleared everything currently due, Singl celebrates with a fireworks burst.
One-time tasks are removed from the active pool immediately and auto-deleted after seven days. Recurring tasks reschedule themselves for their next due date and reappear when that time arrives.
Skipping & Going Back
Not the right moment for the current task? Skip to the next one without completing it:
Swipe left or right — drag the card past 80 pt and release; it flies off screen and the next task springs in. Let go before 80 pt and the card snaps back.
Shake — give the phone a shake; the current card drops with a gravity tumble and the next bounces in.
Skip button (→, top right) — flips to the next task with a smooth 3D card animation.
Changed your mind? The Back button (←, top right, shown alongside Skip) returns you to the previous task. It steps back through your skip history for the current session.
The current task is pinned until you explicitly skip or complete it — reopening the app always shows the same task you left on screen.
Priority
Each task has a priority from 1 (highest) to 5 (lowest). Singl uses weighted-random selection — the exact frequency multipliers are:
Priority 1 — 10× Priority 2 — 5× Priority 3 — 3× Priority 4 — 2× Priority 5 — 1×
A priority-1 task is picked ten times as often as a priority-5 task. Use 1 for things that must happen today, 3 for normal work, and 5 for low-urgency someday items.
Recurrence
Set how often a task repeats when you add or edit it:
One-time — disappears after completion, auto-deleted after 7 days.
Hourly / Daily / Weekly / Biweekly / Monthly / Quarterly / Yearly — reschedules automatically after each completion.
Recurring tasks reappear on their own — no manual resetting needed.
Show After
Set a date and time on a task to hide it until that moment. The task is excluded from the pool until Show After passes — it simply will not appear before then. Use it to schedule something for Monday morning, defer a task until after a meeting, or hide anything that is not relevant right now.
Once the time passes, the task re-enters the pool and a notification fires. If you set Show After on a recurring task, it overrides the recurrence schedule until that moment.
Editing a Task
Open Settings (gear icon, top right) and go to the Tasks tab. Tap any task in the list to edit its title, notes, recurrence, priority, Show After date, or photo.
If a recurring task is showing as complete before its next due date, tap Reset Completion in the edit form to make it due again immediately.
History
In Settings → Tasks, tap History to see a log of every completed task, grouped by date.
Notifications
Singl schedules a notification for each due task. Recurring tasks get a notification when they next become due. One-time tasks with a Show After date get a notification at that time. Notifications are rescheduled automatically whenever you complete a task or change your list — no manual setup needed.
Home Screen & Lock Screen Widget
Add a Singl widget from the widget picker: long-press your Home Screen, tap +, and search for Singl.
Small widget — shows the task title and recurrence badge.
Medium widget — shows title, notes, and two action buttons: → skips to the next due task, ○ marks the current task complete. Both work entirely on the Home Screen — no need to open the app.
Lock Screen widgets (inline, circular, rectangular) keep the current task visible at a glance even when your phone is locked.
The widget reads the same data store as the app. Opening the app forces an immediate sync if the widget looks stale.
Card Style
Go to Settings → Options → Style to choose how the task card looks. Four options:
Card — a rounded rectangle with a drop shadow and subtle border. Classic and clean.
Note — a yellow sticky note with a darker header strip and a page-curl effect in the bottom-right corner.
Paper — a torn-edge page with Canvas-drawn ruled lines and a red left margin line.
Plain — no background frame at all, just the task text. Minimal.
Switch any time without affecting your tasks.
Appearance
Go to Settings → Options → Appearance to lock the app to Light or Dark mode regardless of system settings. The widget follows the same setting.
You can also independently toggle the completion checkmark animation and the fireworks burst in Settings → Options.
Daily Reset Time
In Settings → Options → Daily Tasks you can set a daily reset time (defaults to midnight). This controls when day-based recurrence intervals roll over.
Importing from Apple Reminders
Go to Settings → Tasks → Import from Reminders. Toggle Enable import on and grant Reminders access when prompted. Choose which Reminders list to import from, then tap Sync now.
Re-syncing is safe — running sync again updates existing tasks without creating duplicates.
Future due dates carry over as Show After times.
One-way only — completing a task in Singl does not mark it done in Reminders.
Local edits are protected — Singl only updates tasks it originally imported. Anything you created directly in Singl is never touched.
Sync is on-demand — tap Sync now any time. There is no automatic background sync.
Siri & Shortcuts
Two App Intents are available in the Shortcuts app and via Siri:
Add Task — creates a new task by voice. Siri will ask for a title; notes and recurrence are optional.
Complete Current Task — marks whatever task is currently showing as complete, without unlocking your phone.
Both intents also appear as Shortcuts actions for multi-step automations.
Tips
Tasks with Show After dates won't appear until that date arrives — useful for "remind me about this next Monday" style tasks.
The Skip button picks a different task each time, so you won't see the same one twice in a row.
If only one task is due, the Skip button is disabled — there is nothing else to show.
Completed one-time tasks are automatically cleaned up after 7 days, so your list stays tidy without any manual pruning.
Troubleshooting
No task is showing — all your tasks may have Show After dates in the future, or you may have no tasks yet. Open Settings → Tasks to see the full list.
A recurring task is not reappearing — open it in Settings → Tasks and check the recurrence setting. If Show After is set, it overrides recurrence until that time passes.
The widget is not updating — iOS controls background widget refresh timing and may throttle it. Opening the app briefly forces an immediate sync. Make sure Background App Refresh is enabled for Singl in iOS Settings.
Reminders import is not finding my lists — make sure Singl has Reminders access in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Reminders (Full Access required).
